Psalms 54

Verses 1-7, “Save me, O God, by Your name, And vindicate me by Your strength. Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen up against me, And oppressors have sought after my life; They have not set God before them. Selah. Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who uphold my life. He will repay my enemies for their evil. Cut them off in Your truth. I will freely sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O Lord, for it is good. For He has delivered me out of all trouble; And my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.”

There is power in the name of Jesus, which is why David prays in this manner for vindication. When healing the lame man at the gate called Beautiful, Peter did the same. Acts 3:6, “Then Peter said, 'Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.' ”  In fact, as Christians, we should do all things in the name of Jesus. Colossians 3:16‭-‬17, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Doing things in the name of Jesus will give you perseverance, even through the most difficult times in your life, because you are relying on His power not you're own. If you are truly born again, you should only seek to do the things that can be done in His name. Colossians 3:22‭-‬25, “Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.”  Sometimes we wrestle in our thoughts over whether or not it is technically sin to do something.  However, if you cannot do it unto the Lord, you likely should not be doing it at all.

When we become aware of the presence of our enemies, like David, we can fully rely upon the Lord to judge our situation. This can be contrary to our human tendency to take matters into our own hands. If we try to defend or save ourselves, we may just find that our situation becomes even more hopeless, so that we come to the realization that we cannot do it on our own and need Him. Surrendering may sound weak, but if it is unto the Lord, it is the wisest thing you can do. Hebrews 10:30, “For we know Him who said, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,' says the Lord. And again, 'The Lord will judge His people.' ”

  1. Save me, O God, by Your name, And vindicate me by Your strength. Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen up against me, And oppressors have sought after my life; They have not set God before them. Selah Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who uphold my life. He will repay my enemies for their evil. Cut them off in Your truth. I will freely sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O Lord , for it  is good. For He has delivered me out of all trouble; And my eye has seen its  desire upon my enemies.
    Psalms 54:1‭-‬7 NKJV

Although David's people came up and betrayed him, God was still there and on his side. David was victorious ever time. The Lord protected him from these people  not allowing them to kill him. It clearly showed wich side He was on.

Many times within the church there is people, who we think are people of God but actually aren't. We need to watch out for these people and be careful what we say to them. They will most likely betray us and take what we say against us. Though they may be against us, the Lord is still on our side and will protect us from major harm. This does not mean that there won't be damage especially if we were not completely in the right and spoke something to that you didn't want shared. Nomatter what these people do to us we need to stay in the right. Even when David had opertunitys to kill Saul, he did kill him, but allowed God to deal with him. We also need to allow God to deal with these people as well.

  2. The Lord should be the first one we go to in times of trouble as a believer! We need to be in prayer continually, seeking His will on all situations in our life. There may be times where it seems like He doesn't hear us or answer right away. If we have sin in our life, it separates us from the Lord. He won't hear our prayers unless it is one of repentance. Often time, our prayer life can be hindered, and we don't check our lives for sin. No answer from Him can also be just that..no answer. God might have us wait, and we do need to be patient and wait for His reply!

Prayer is extremely powerful, and it is often something that we don't do enough of! God commands us to pray without ceasing! I Thessalonians 5:18- "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." People mught get upset when things aren't going as planned, but haven't given it up to tbe Lord and asked Him for help yet.

The truth is, God had delivered us from our sin, and we should be praising Him! The more we grow in the Lord, the more we should be humbled and see just how much God has delivered us from! When endive come against us, which they will of wr are truly saved, we need to rely on Him and trust that He will take care of them in His perfect timing!

1 Corinthians 9

Paul feels the need to defend his calling and his position of authority among the Corinthians, due to the fact that he is being examined. Ironically, his decision to not take support from the church, which should have earned him even more respect, has done the opposite causing his legitimacy as an apostle to be called into question. He makes the point that those who labor spiritually for the Corinthians have the right to eat and drink at their expense, and should expect the same support for their believing wife if they choose to bring one along as part of their ministry.  Certainly if others have been supported by them, Paul has even more right, being their spiritual father so to speak. I Corinthians 9:12, "If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ." Paul does not want to be accused of fulfilling his duty out of financial obligation, and so to demon...

1 Timothy 6

Those of us who are under authority should be respectful so that outsiders will not witness our behavior and blaspheme God or His word. Although slavery has been abolished in America, we still have employers, and our jobs should be done unto the Lord so that our hard work will be to the glory of God. Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Some Christians believe that they can relax on these standards if they work for a Christian boss, but actually the opposite is true. We should serve them even harder knowing that a brother or sister will be benefiting from our labors. Having been employed in ministry I was able to witness firsthand how others served their Christian bosses. Many would show up late, leave early, miss meetings, and produce mediocre to poor quality work as though it were acceptable to do so. If we bear the name of Jesus, we should stand out for our quality of performance and our et...

2 Corinthians 2

The letter Paul has written was out of love for the Corinthians, but was anguishing for him to write.  Choosing to send a letter rather than return to visit them on his way back through from Macedonia, was to avoid another occurrence of the first visit.  We can assume that the first visit was troubling for Paul, being their spiritual father so to speak, to see the church in the state it was in, requiring him to rebuke them harshly for their errors.  Much the same as when we are grieved when someone close to us goes astray (like our children), causing the need for strong words and discipline. Paul had sorrow over those whom he wanted to have joy.  Verse 4, “For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears,  not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.” The intention of the letter was not to bring them grief, but to correct them in love and bring about a change of heart and...
